A MAN was lured to a Suffolk house before being punched in the face and having cash stolen from him, a court heard.

Daniel Doyle received a text from a 16-year-old boy inviting him to a home in Leiston. When he arrived on March 12 he was punched in the face by 19-year-old Luke Abbott, Ipswich Crown Court was told yesterday.

During the melee that followed Mr Doyle’s clothing was torn and he was subjected to a search during which his wallet fell to the ground, said Patricia Doggett, prosecuting.

Seventeen-year-old Robiul Islam had taken a tobacco pouch and a lighter from Mr Doyle’s pocket.

Twenty pounds was removed from Mr Doyle’s wallet which Abbott, Islam and the 16-year-old planned to spend on cannabis, said Miss Doggett.

When Islam was arrested later the same day he was found in possession of Mr Doyle’s lighter and tobacco pouch but the £20 was not recovered.

Abbott, of Harling Way, Leiston, and Islam, of Garrett Crescent, Leiston, admitted common assault and theft.

Abbott was sentenced to a 12-month community order during which he will have to attend an “aggression replacement” programme and abide by a two-month curfew between 6am and 6pm. Islam was made the subject of a 12-month youth rehabilitation order and ordered to do 100 hours of unpaid community work and a Righting Wrongs programme.

The court heard the 16-year-old youth had admitted robbery and was sentenced in a youth court to a 12-month referral order.

Judge Rupert Overbury could have made an order banning the publication of Islam’s name as he is only 17 but declined to do so.

Miss Doggett told the court that Abbott and Islam had not been involved in luring Mr Doyle to the house where he was attacked.
