Primary school super sleuths descended on a make believe crime scene during a day of scientific investigation.

Alde Valley School in Leiston invited 170 year-four children from 10 local primary school to form forensic science teams and investigate a case of burglary, diamond smuggling and corruption.

Students found out about the world of the crime scene investigator and used their skills to sift for clues.

The young experts worked with chemical tests, fingerprinting and microscopes to follow leads. Eventually there was enough evidence to convict the villain.

There was even a twist, when a real life police team went along with the make believe by arriving to ‘arrest’ an accomplice to the crime - much to the delight of the pupils who had unearthed the evidence.

The science department put together the programme of interactive activities and challenges to get younger pupils thinking about science.
