Leiston: Chance to help shape local community in Neighbourhood Plan

PEOPLE are invited to have their say on how to shape their local community.

Leiston-cum-Sizewell Town Council is in the process of preparing a Neighbourhood Plan.

A number of volunteers have started work on the project and now members want to hear the views of local residents. Various groups have been formed covering everything from housing, environment and business to recreation and the town centre.

Barrie Skelcher is chairman of the infrastructure group - concerned with transport, parking, environment, flooding, technology and energy. “This is not a matter of tick box questionnaires but an exercise to find out what the residents want,” he said. “We would like to hear from all residents that have relevant information, problems, ideas and suggestions or hold strong views on our aforementioned topics.

“In the first instance, just to flag up your interest, please drop a note into the town council office, marked for the attention of the infrastructure group, giving your name, phone number, email address and the topic you would like to discuss. A member of the group will then make contact with you.”

The aim of a Neighbourhood Plan is to allow people to have more of an influence over future planning applications. For more details visit www.leistontowncouncil.gov.uk or see the Leiston-cum-Sizewell Neighbourhood Plan page on social networking website Facebook.
