Lidgate, where the fatal accident took place

Police are renewing their appeal for information, two weeks after a man died while working on the B1063 road at Lidgate near Newmarket.

Officers have today been at the scene where the man was found collapsed on Tuesday, May 13.

Police were called by paramedics around 10.30am on Tuesday, May 13 with a report that a man had collapsed on the B1063 near to a section where road works were taking place.

37-year-old Aidan Gallagher, from Ipswich, who had been working on the road works was taken by land ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital but sadly died en route.

A Home Office post-mortem examination was held on Tuesday, May 20, which found that Mr Gallagher had internal injuries consistent with an impact.

Today, officers placed collision anniversary boards along the roadside, in the hope that someone who had been driving along the road two weeks ago at around the time Mr Gallagher died, will come forward with information.

Also, with the assistance of automatic number plate recognition (ANPR), details of vehicles travelling along the road between 9am and 11am were captured so further enquiries can be carried out.

Officers also carried out house-to-house enquiries in the village of Lidgate.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who had been driving along the road at the time and may have witnessed the collision or who saw any vehicle with damage that may have been caused by a collision to get in contact.

Anyone with information should contact the Major Investigation Team on 101.
