An Ipswich taxi driver is set for the trip of a lifetime after winning a bumper payout from the people’s postcode lottery.
Garry Waugh, 52, is planning to book a dream holiday to Florida after scooping £30,000 in the draw.
He said: “I am over the moon, when I think about it I still get tearful. It means a lot to me and the family. The win couldn’t have come at a better time.”
The father-of-four scooped the win after being signed up for the lottery for three years despite wife Kim not always being thrilled by it.
Mr Waugh revealed: “Kim wondered why I kept sticking at it and I told her it is because I believe I will win one day and now I have.”
A week before Mr Waugh was handed the cheque, he received a phone call from the postcode lottery telling him he had won but they weren’t able to disclose how much.
Mr Waugh, said: “The wait was agonising, we had sleepless nights and we all just kept wondering how much it could be. We were so excited, we weren’t even able to eat properly. I said to my step-daughter Jessica that if it was a big cheque I would take her to Disneyland Florida.”
On the day of the cheque reveal Mr Waugh and his family were waiting at the window and described the wait as “nerve wracking”.
He said: “When the film crew arrived and I discovered the cheque was for £30,000 Jessica sobbed for two hours because she knew she was going to Florida. Me and my wife were also emotional, we couldn’t believe it.”
The 52-year-old plans to pay off his taxi, pay £10,000 off his mortgage, buy his wife an eternity ring, book Disneyland Florida and give money to his other three children.
He said: “My step-daughter Hannah wants to go to Ibiza so I might pay for that, she is also learning to drive so the money could also go towards her first car. My other children who are older, Ashley and Emma, will also have some money from me.”
