A woman managed to pull herself out of her car after it went into a Suffolk river.

Fire, police and the ambulance services were all called to Bridge Street, Long Melford at about 11.20pm yesterday.

Crews arrived to find the female driver of the Renault Clio had got out of the vehicle.

A police spokeswoman said the woman was taken to hospital as a precaution. Recovery of the car has been arranged.

Appliances from Long Melford, Sudbury and water incident vehicles from Bury St Edmunds and Princes Street were called.

  • I am the girl who ends up in the river. I was in too much of a state to myself out and screaming for help. I'd very much like to say a massive thank you to all the local Bridge-Streeters who pulled me out of the river and looked after me until help arrived. I am very shaken and have a suspected fractured collar bone. Thank you again, Jenny xxx
