Police in Lowestoft are investigating an assault on the town’s beach front which saw a boy being grabbed and slapped by a woman.

The assault on the eight-year-old boy took place on the beach near Claremont Pier at about 12.30pm on Thursday.

The boy, was playing on the beach with his cousin when some of the sand he had thrown accidently hit a young girl who was standing nearby.

The mother/guardian of the young girl then went up to the boy and grabbed him by the arm and slapped him on the side of the head, the boy then ran away and told his mother what had happened.

Police say officers would like to speak with the woman who was white, 5ft 10in, aged in her late 30s, of slim build, with short dark hair that was tapered in at the back and sides.

She spoke with a foreign accent and was wearing a bikini with white shorts.

If you recognise the description of the woman, witnessed the incident or if you have any information about the assault, call PC Stacey Fitzpatrick at Lowestoft Police Station on 101.

  • Apparently he just needs a cuddle and to be told it is ok to throw sand over anyone around as the Ipswich Star moderates any other views. Freedom of speech what is that.

  • Thowing sand is a very dangerous thing to do !, you could easily damage someone's sight doing that !, maybe he needs someone to discipline him ! and teach him right from wrong !
