Army bomb disposal experts were called from Colchester today after reports of a wartime shell being discovered on Lowestoft beach.
A metal detector enthusiast raised the alarm at 11.45am after discovering a 6in metal object in the sand near Links Road.
Police cordoned off an area of the beach, but experts quickly ruled out the object being a wartime armament and the object was handed to the finder as a souvenir.
