Lowestoft: Stretch of A12 near Lowestoft to close as hole appears next to road

PUBLISHED: 19:43 18 February 2014 | UPDATED: 19:43 18 February 2014

Archant

A section of the A12 near Lowestoft will close from 8pm today as safety investigations and repair work gets under way into a shallow hole which has opened up along side the northbound carriageway.

The road will be closed in both directions near the corner of Station Square and diversion signs will be put in place. It will be re-opened as soon as it is deemed safe.

The hole is about five metres long and 20cm deep – it was found by Highways Agency contractors during repair work.

A spokesman said: “The Highways Agency and its contractors have been working hard during the day to determine the extent of the hole, however a full overnight road closure is required to fully establish the size and undertake the necessary repairs.”
