A man had be rescued from the sea at Lowestoft by a lifeboat.

Police initiated a rescue which involved the Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s all-weather lifeboat The Spirit of Lowestoft after they lost sight of a man in the water off Links Road.

Rescue teams from Lowestoft and Gorleston coastguards, Lowestoft RNLI and Gorleston inshore lifeboat as well as the search and rescue helicopter based at Wattisham were all called out. It happened shortly after 11pm last night.

The man, who was described as depressed, was about 50 metres from the shore beyond the end of the groynes.

When pulled out of the water he was very cold and exhausted. First aid was given to him on the lifeboat and he was transferred to the James Paget University Hospital when back on land.
