A man in his 60s has suffered injuries after being attacked with a “metal bar” and robbed in Lowestoft this morning.
Police are appealing for information following the attack in the Bevan Street West/Katwijk Way area at about 9.45am.
The victim was outside business premises in Bevan Street West when he was approached by a man, thought to be aged in his late teens to late 20s, who was wearing a grey tracksuit with a hood that was up and pulled tightly around his face and a grey gilet over the top of the tracksuit.
The offender was brandishing what appeared to have been a metal bar and he struck the man several times while trying to steal a bag he was carrying.
A scuffle ensued before the offender fled, without the bag, cycling away on a grey bike towards Stanley Street. However a set of keys that had fallen to the ground in the altercation were grabbed and stolen by the robber.
The victim has been taken to the James Paget hospital with injuries thought to include a broken hand and a possible broken arm.
Police have already spoken to a number of people who were in the area around this time but are keen to hear from anyone else who may have seen the incident or who may have seen a man matching this description in the vicinity this morning.
Anyone who has any information should call Lowestoft CID by dialling 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously if required, on 0800 555111.
