A masked man holding a handgun attempted to rob a convenience store in Maldon last night.

The offender entered the Costcutters store in Dryden Close around 9.45pm but left empty handed after a female worker screamed and pressed the panic alarm. He ran off towards a nearby alleyway.

Police have issued CCTV of the man, who is described as being over 5ft 8ins tall and of medium build. He was wearing a grey and white top and a black coat with a white logo and work-style trousers with reflective stripes at the bottom.

Anyone who was in the area last night or has any information about the suspect is asked to contact Dc Ray Hull at Chelmsford CID on 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
