Ben St Joseph, 22, from Maldon, suffered fatal injuries after he fell from Tower Ridge on Ben Nevis in the Scottish Highlands on Saturday.

Officers from Northern Constabulary received a report from two climbers at around 11am that another climber had fallen and Lochaber Mountain Rescue were sent to the scene along with a helicopter from Prestwick.

It is understood Mr St Joseph climbing on his own and was around 2,800ft up the 4,409ft mountain when he fell around 100 metres into the gully below.

An investigation has been launched and a report is being prepared for the procurator fiscal, Northern Constabulary said.

John Stevenson, of Lochaber Mountain Rescue, said that conditions on Saturday were “pretty good” and that it was a tragic accident.

Mr St Joseph’s death comes just a week after four climbers were killed after falling 1,000ft in an avalanche in Glencoes in the Scottish Highlands.
