Pupils at Melton Primary School, Kyran, Milly, Joshua, Daisy, Ava and Charleyrose, won the Easter hat contest and took part in a school-wide egg hunt on Friday, 4 April.

Pupils in Suffolk showed “great community spirit” as they teamed up to hunt for Easter eggs during a popular annual celebration marking the end of spring term.

Melton Primary School’s Easter event saw more than 140 pupils decorate eggs with a variety of creative designs, which were then halved and hidden around the school grounds.

The children kept one half and searched the school for its counterpart, trading in the completed egg for a tasty chocolate treat.

Headteacher Mark Girling said the pupils showed “great community spirit” in assisting one another find their missing halves.

“It’s been a tradition at the school for a number of years and the pupils really look forward to it,” he added.

“Having it before the school closes helps to give the holidays a purpose while saying well done for their work over the term.”

Mr Girling has thanked The Friends of Melton for organising the event and The Rev Michael Hatchett, rector of Melton and Ufford, and a governor at the school, for leading the assembly.
