A man is in hospital with serious leg injuries after falling off a building ledge in a north-east Essex town centre.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, was taken to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford with injuries not thought to be life-threatening after falling from a mezzanine in Mistley High Street, an East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said.

Paramedics and the Essex Air Ambulance were called to the incident at around 11.20am today.

An ambulance spokesman said: “We were called at 11.21am to reports that a man, believed to be in his 40s, was injured following a fall from a height.

“A rapid response vehicle, an ambulance, and Essex Air Ambulance were sent to the scene.

“Fortunately, having assessed the casualty, paramedics found that his injuries were not life-threatening, however, he did sustain serious damage to one of his legs.

“Due to the nature of the injury, he was taken by ambulance to Broomfield Hospital for specialist treatment.”

Essex Police have not yet responded to requests for comment on the incident.
