THE headteacher of a Suffolk school says she has been left “mortified” by the double whammy of having raiders break into their building twice in the space of five days.
Moulton Primary was initially targeted by burglars who took 15 laptops estimated to be worth up to £4,000,
Then between last Thursday, when the school closed, and Friday, when it re-opened, staff arrived to find they had been broken into again with a small grey safe, containing cash, being taken.
“It has been a mad week for us what with the computers going and then this latest incident,” headteacher Naomi Snowdon said.
“We are mortified. They appear to have crowbarred the door open to get in, broke the office door and then took the safe, but it’s the damage and the impact caused... it’s huge.”
Situated on the edge of the village in School Road it has become vulnerable and Mrs Snowdon appealed to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area last week to contact police.
“We would just like people to keep an eye on things for us,” she said. “It’s really frustrating with the laptops going as we were in the process of setting up an ITC suite. It will impact on the children.”
Police confirmed that the building was broken into for a second time and that the safe was taken.
The first raid took place between Monday and Tuesday, January 14 and 15, and it is the third rural school to be hit by burglars in a fortnight, the others being at the primary schools in the villages of Rougham and Risby.
Anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour or has knowledge of the latest burglary at Moulton is being asked to contact Mildenhall Response on 101 quoting reference NE/13/102 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
