A SPECIALIST swimming club which gives naturists the opportunity to enjoy a dip in the buff, free from the “restrictions” of a “clammy wet costume,” has grown so popular it has been forced to expand.

Increasing numbers attending the two-year-old swim and sauna sessions at Mildenhall swimming pool mean the club will begin a second meet in nearby Newmarket later this month.

Nearly 50 people have joined in with the naturist sessions in recent weeks, which organisers feel is overcrowding the pool at Mildenhall.

“At long last the people of Newmarket will be able to swim and sauna the way that nature intended,” said Malcolm Boura, chairman of Mildenhall Naturist Swimming Club.

“No more clammy wet costume, no more restricted movement - perfect freedom to relax and enjoy a swim and sauna.

“What better way to recover from the festive season?”

The new sessions have been organised in conjunction with Forest Heath District Council, with the first taking place between 6pm and 8pm on January 15.

Organisers say two lanes will be roped off for serious swimmers, while the rest of the pool will be filled with inflatables for games and chat.

And they added that a complete cross section of the community were all expected to join in, including teachers, doctors, care workers, farmers and factory workers.

“It is lovely to see so many very different people relaxing and enjoying themselves together,” added Mr Boura.

“I am probably the only person there, apart from his wife, who knows that one of our members is a knight.”

Mr Boura said newcomers could be assured that any embarrassment would disappear as clothes were removed, but swimsuits were optional for anyone particularly nervous.

Anyone interested in joining in should contact the club on 07946 886843 or visit the website for admission arrangements at http://mildenhall.naturism.org.uk
