Organisers of a conference on “mindfulness and wellbeing” for school-aged children say the event proved so popular they are already planning follow-up sessions.

Almost 300 people attended Thursday’s event at Framlingham College to hear mental health experts discuss the problems facing young people today and what can be done to help.

Luck flack, a mother from Earl Soham who helped organise the event to raise awareness of the pressures faced by children, said it received an “overwhelming response” with “very positive feedback,” leading to calls for further sessions.

“Parents and pastoral carers in schools are very aware of the alarming statistics surrounding anxiety and depression in our children and, I believe, would like guidance about how to support them or, more hopefully, prevent some of these negative feelings which lead to serious mental health problems,” she added.

Guest speakers included Claire Kelly, director of the Mindfulness in Schools Project, and Hazel Harrison, a clinical psychologist at ThinkAvellana.
