A driver was racially abused by a group of men who he stopped for thinking they needed help.

The victim, a 20-year-old man, was driving along Rowley Drive, Newmarket, towards Exning Road at 6.50pm on Sunday.

He became aware of the group of eight men shouting at him and pulled over.

But as he wound down his window one of the group was verbally abusive, while another poured beer over his dashboard.

A third man poured beer into his eye and smashed a beer bottle over the car while making racist comments.

The men, aged in their late teens or early 20s, then left towards St Mary’s Square.

The main suspect was white, around 23-years-old, wearing no top and grey bottoms. He is described as being of strong build and around 6ft tall, with hair shaved at the side and around 3ins on top and brown in colour.

Half of the group were not wearing tops.
