Two people were arrested after a brawl at Newmarket Racecourse.

It happened after the last race, won by Hors De Combat, when a group of around half a dozen people started fighting.

It took place in the main betting ring at around 6pm and had to be broken up by stewards and police.

A statement posted on the course’s Twitter feed later read: “There was an incident in the betting ring after the last race involving a small number of racegoers.

“The incident was dealt with swiftly by racecourse security and police teams. As a result, two arrests were made.

“It is very disappointing that people choose to behave in this way after an otherwise successful day’s racing.”

They later added the two people arrested by police were released without charge.
