Newmarket: Two people rescued from flat fire at Sovereign Court

Two people were rescued early this morning from a fire in a flat in Newmarket.

Three crews – two from Newmarket and one from Burwell – attended the incident at Sovereign Court at 4.22am.

Two persons were led out of the property by the fire crews.

Officers wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to put out the blaze, and a thermal imaging camera to check the property. The fire was under control by 4.42am and crews had left the scene by just after 5am.

Crews from Eye, Stowmarket and Ixworth were called to a chimney fire in a thatched property on Back Street in Gislingham.

The first crew arrived at 9.37pm and the fire was brought under control by 11.15pm.
