The East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) was called to Newton last night to the scene where the man, in his 80s, had suffered a cardiac arrest after the leg injury.

Despite the best efforts of the air crew and paramedics the patient was declared dead at the scene.

An EAAA spokesman said: “Our thoughts are with their family and friends at this sad and difficult time.”
