Norwich City midfielder Gary O’Neil is facing the prospect of two trials after allegedly being caught travelling at 103mph in Suffolk and 97mph in Norfolk on separate days.

The 32-year-old’s speeding cases were discussed at a hearing before South East Suffolk Magistrates Court in Ipswich. Both were adjourned until December.

O’Neil did not attend the hearing. However, a list of dates to avoid was provided to the court which coincided with Norwich City’s fixtures, including those in midweek.

O’Neil, of Orpington, Kent, is accused of driving his BMW at 103mph on the A14 at Newmarket on Saturday, March 21 It is alleged that at 10.05am the midfielder was caught driving at 33mph above the speed limit.

Around six weeks earlier O’Neil is alleged to have been caught by a laser detection device travelling at 97mph in the same BMW.

The incident is said to have occurred at 8.45am on Sunday, February 8, on the A11 at Spooner Row, Wymondham.

Both accusations were too high to be dealt with by way of a fixed penalty offer.

Trials were fixed before Ipswich magistrates, each of which were given two-hour time slots.

The February 8 matter was scheduled for December 4, while the Suffolk charge was scheduled to be heard on December 10.

O’Neil signed for Norwich as a free agent on a two-year deal in August 2014 after he was released by Queen’s Park Rangers having played 33 games for the west London club the previous season. This included scoring in the play-off final victory against Derby County.

Last season he gained his third successive promotion when Norwich won the Championship play-off final to be promoted to the Premier League.

O’Neil began his career at Portsmouth where he made 192 appearances.

He once cost Middlesbrough a fee of £5m and also played in the Premier League with West Ham before joining QPR in August 2013.

Including appearances as substitute O’Neil has played 29 times for Norwich.
