It was announced this morning that Professor Stephen Hawking has died at the age of 76, we take a look at his visits to Suffolk.

The renowned theoretical physicist and cosmologist died peacefully at his home in Cambridge in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The scientific genius visited the region several times - his most recent visit was in October 2016 when he gave an inspiring talk to Headway Suffolk’s Neuro Conference at BT Adastral Park and then Kesgrave Community Centre.

During his talk he spoke about his own experience with dealing with Moto neuron disease (MND) and how the positives in life have kept him going.

In 2012, the scientist visited Felixstowe and enjoyed some lunch at the Regal Fish Bar and Restaurant.

One year later, Professor Hawking surprised the Royal Air Force Lakenheath with a visit and he had his picture taken with members of the 48th Security Forces Squadron.
