Proposals to build a waste transfer station at Rougham Hill on the edge of Bury St Edmunds have been given the go-ahead despite unanimous opposition from the town.
Conservatives on the county council’s development control committee voted en bloc to push the proposal through despite sustained opposition from the town.
St Edmundsbury’s development control committee had voted unanimously to object to the proposal earlier this month.
Most opposition councillors on the county committee voted against the proposal which will see the town’s household waste site almost halved in size – as Bury prepares for a major expansion.
