She might be gone, but a Suffolk company is helping to keep Lady Thatcher’s memory alive for her supporters at this year’s Conservative Party conference.
Southwold-based Spring marketing agency has created “The Maggie Collection” of souvenirs for keen followers of the former Prime Minister who died earlier this year.
It has produced a range of bags, tee-shirts, fridge magnets, and even baby clothes featuring some of the best-known quotes from the Iron Lady.
The collection’s stand is already proving to be one of the most popular at the Conservative conference in Manchester, which started yesterday with a tribute to Lady Thatcher.
Spring co-founder Erika Clegg said: “We selected quotations which demonstrate her warmth, moral view and motivation.
“The images we chose show her as a young woman, just starting out in her political career; as a stateswoman, in a classic formal portrait; and as a lively, characterful woman, waving energetically to a crowd.”
The collection includes a canvas bag with an image of her famous hard-sided handbag. Commuters can wield an Oyster card holder bearing the slogan: “You may have to fight the battle more than once to win it.”
Ms Clegg said: “We wanted to create a range by which we felt Margaret Thatcher would be amused and gently flattered. She was never stuffy, and so this witty appreciation of her approach to life feels right for her.
“It’s respectful, fresh and great fun and it’s been an enormous honour to undertake the project.”
Conservative commercial director, Scott Seaman-Digby said: “Senior people within the party took seconds to agree the project once they saw Spring’s recommendations, and we’re delighted at the way the launch has gone and been received.”
The range, which also includes mugs, postcards, and tea towel has gone on sale at ‘Maggie’s Shop’ at conference – she was famously brought up living over a shop in Grantham. The range is also available online from www.maggiesshop.com
