THE county’s element of council tax bills will be frozen for four years if the Conservatives are re-elected in May’s elections for Endeavour House.

That was the pledge today from council leader Mark Bee during the county’s debate on the 2013/14 tax rate at Endeavour House.

This is the third year running that the county has frozen its council tax.

Mr Bee made the pledge after the Conservative-dominated authority rejected a Liberal Democrat amendment that would have seen £1.7million transfered from the county’s reserves to boost education and young people’s services in the county.

The entire council is up for re-election in May with the Conservatives defending 55 of the 75 seats up for grabs.

  • Or to put it another way, Council pledges continuing deterioration in public services over the next four years. Unfortunately, I expect the party of self-interest will still be in the majority come May.

  • or, as an alternative, put up council tax and improve our services! Those that can't pay generally have benefits anyway and a couple of pounds a week to many of us won't make much of a difference. We get the services we're paying for, and as we're not paying there's no suurprise services are being cut back and vanishing.

  • Well why not nothing has changed over the last four years. Still the dustcart once a week and a solitary street light. Same thing different day.
