ONE of the biggest girl bands in the world are set to wow racing fans when they perform in Suffolk this summer.

Tickets have today gone on sale for the Pussycat Dolls after it was announced they would be performing at the Newmarket Nights season in July.

The “spectacular show” marks the official launch of the smash hit group's Dolls 2009 UK Tour and completes the line-up for the popular series of events which combines horse racing with live music from well-known acts.

The American pop band, whose hits include Don't Cha and When I Grow Up, are scheduled to perform at the Rowley Mile course on July 17.

Stephen Wallis, managing director at Newmarket Racecourse, said: “I am absolutely delighted that the Pussycat Dolls have chosen Newmarket as the opening night of their UK tour.

“Fans have been eagerly awaiting news of our last remaining night and I know that they will agree that the wait has been worthwhile.”

Other acts already lined up include Boyzone, Scouting for Girls, Status Quo and Simply Red.

A special 1980s revival concert - featuring the likes of Paul Young, Belinda Carlisle and Midge Ure - will open the season on June 19 followed a week later by Alesha Dixon, Lemar and Estelle.

Liz Hobbs, of concert producers Liz Hobbs Group, said: “We are delighted to secure the Pussycat Dolls for Newmarket Racecourse.

“This year's Newmarket Nights concert series is set to be one of the most successful in its history. Newmarket Nights is now regarded as one of the country's ultimate live music events and the Pussycat Dolls concert is destined to be one of the highlights of this year's live calendar.”
