A NEW scout troop formed to cope with growing demand is on the look out for a permanent meeting place.

The 1st Rendlesham Scout Group recently held a mass investiture ceremony at the village primary school, where it currently gets together on Monday evenings.

The troop, which has 30 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts on its books, was born out of demand for Scouting activities in the area.

As a result - and with those in Woodbridge having long waiting lists - the Deben District team seized the opportunity to start a new group in Rendlesham.

A start up grant from Scouting HQ and the Freemasons has enabled the youngsters to get under way with their activities, with new volunteer leaders taking the reins and supportive parents also lending a hand.

However they are now on the look out for a permanent meeting place where they can store their equipment.

The Scout section is also looking for a new leader so they can continue after Christmas.

Suffolk Scouts’ Carl Gloess said: “Volunteering for The Scout Association is easy, fun, offers opportunities to get externally-recognised qualifications and gives you the chance to have a real impact on the development of young people.

“How much time you give is up to you, and you don’t need any previous experience.

“We have a huge variety of roles to suit everyone, and whatever role you choose, we’ll make sure you’re properly trained and supported.”

If you are able to help the group in Rendlesham please contact Scout leader, Paul Powell, at pmpjr@hotmail.co.uk or at the Monday meetings.

Alternatively you can call the county office on 01473 711678 or visit www.suffolkscouts.org.uk for more information.
