A BEREAVED couple are calling for police to reopen an investigation into the death of their teenage son.

Michael and Patricia Hannant, from Reydon near Southwold, sent out another appeal for help in solving “unanswered questions” concerning 19-year-old Daniel’s death four years ago.

His parents are still trying to comprehend the circumstances leading to the former Sir John Leman High School pupil’s disappearance on February 28, 2009, and the discovery of his body in a ditch three days later.

Police maintain there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding Daniel’s death, but his parents remain troubled by the official account of events from the night he went missing after drinking with friends at the British Legion Club, in Southwold.

He left at about 11.30pm but was not seen until his body was found near the Blyth Road allotments. An inquest heard he had an “extremely high level” of alcohol in his blood.

His parents have since spent thousands hiring solicitors and even a private investigator.

Mr Hannant said: “We think there were inconsistencies.

“We don’t know where the excess alcohol came from and we don’t believe Daniel was alone later that night. A lot of things don’t add up.”

A police spokeswoman said the coroner had been satisfied with the investigation.

She added: “Since the start of the inquiry, officers have made continual appeals for information and interviewed a number of people including witnesses and Daniel’s friends to try to get to the bottom of what happened between when Daniel went missing and when his body was found.

“As with any case where there are still elements that are unexplained, officers will treat any new information that is brought forward seriously and will see if this can take the inquiry any further.

“Anyone who can help is asked to call Suffolk Police on 101.”
