The competition last ran in 2016 and sees primary and junior schools battle it out to collect as many tokens as possible in order to win the top prize of £5000 which they can spend on sports equipment.
Schools in Suffolk have been sharing their stories of what getting involved in the Sports for Schools campaign has done for them.
The competition last ran in 2016 and will see primary and junior schools battle it out once more to collect as many tokens as possible.
Those taking part have a chance to win a share of a £20,000 cash pot which they can spend on sports equipment.
The school that came second place in the last competition was Wood Ley Community Primary from Stowmarket.
As a result of entering the competition, the school won £3000 to put towards equipment.
Headteacher Sandra Renwick said: “The equipment we purchased as a result of being a winner in the last competition has had a dramatic impact on the playtime experiences of our children.
“We were able to buy lots of play equipment such as boxes of skipping ropes, balls, hoops, skittles, pop up tennis nets and rackets as well as storage containers to hold them all in.
“The children thoroughly enjoy using the equipment, they are extremely active during break times and co-operation has increased as a result of additional things to do.”
Over 100 schools from across Suffolk and north Essex have already signed up to take part in this year’s scheme.
From next Monday, February 5, a token will be printed in every edition of the paper up until April 14.
Saturdays will see two tokens printed in the East Anglian with further bonus tokens appearing in other editions.
Parents, staff and members of the local community can then collect these tokens and hand them into schools.
The top three schools will receive prizes of £5000, £3000 and £2000 respectively.
The winners will be calculated on a pro rata basis; meaning that schools of all sizes have a chance of winning the competition.
Those schools who collect 1000 tokens will all receive a free sports pack worth over £60.
If your school wishes to get involved in this year’s Sports for Schools then they need to apply by this weekend.
To get involved simply send the schools’ name , address, postcode, telephone number as well as a contact name, and the number of pupils at the school to sportsforschools@archant.co.uk
