Snow-lovers in Suffolk and Essex take full advantage of weather

Some headed for their nearest park for a spot of sledging and snowball fights, while others made snowmen in the garden as several inches fell in places.

Many people sent stunning photographs from around the region to the EADT, as well as snowy pictures of their children and pets having fun.

The snow began in the west of the county around 5.30am before it tailed off prior to a heavy spell around 9am.

In Bury St Edmunds, the ‘dip’ near West Suffolk College – always a popular spot for sledging – was full of eager children hitting the slope.

The farmers market in the town also still took place with some hardy souls determined to do a bit of Christmas shopping.

In Framlingham, the adverse weather did not deter the Suffolk Young Farmers Santa Run from taking place.

Starting at Debach Airfield, the tractors made their way through Charsfield, Hoo, Kettleburgh, Framlingham, Saxtead, Earl Soham, Framsden, Otley and back to the airfield.

This year’s event was in memory of 25-year-old Josh Gilbert, from Walsham-le-Willows, who died in September and was chairman of Bury Young Farmers Club.

The snow arrived in Ipswich around 9.30am and children and their parents soon made their way to Christchurch Park for some sledging action.

The Ipswich park tweeted: “The best sledging in the area! And how good of the snow to arrive on a Sunday morning.”

It was a similar story in Castle Park in Colchester as people enjoyed perfect sledging conditions as well as throwing the odd snowball.

A number of Father Christmases also graced the park as the Santa Fun Run took place in aid of the Cancer Centre Campaign at Colchester General Hospital.

Snowman making also proved popular and three-year-old Teddy Baker, from Colchester, built his first today, while East Bergholt High School student Amelia Took made a pair in her backgarden in Boxted.

It was also a good day for nature photographers, with a number of beautiful shots of birds and landscapes being captured and shared on social media.
