Southwold’s candy coloured beach huts are among the most sought after properties in Britain.
And for anyone who has ever dreamed of owning their own little place by the sea, there is now a chance to buy one of five new huts being built on the town’s seafront.
Four beach huts are being sold on the sea wall apron north of the pier for offers over £25,000 and one beach hut is available in one of the most desirable locations on the promenade to the north of Gun Hill for offers of more than £100,000.
They are being marketed by NPS Property Consultants on behalf of Waveney District Council. The sale will include a new beach hut to be constructed on the site and a lease of the site
Waveney is paying £4,000 plus VAT for each hut and proceeds from the sale of the properties will help to fund the repair and renovation of the Ladies Walk footpath at Kilcock Cliff above North Parade in Southwold.
Tony Rudd, of NPS Property Consultants, said: “We have had quite a lot of interest. At the moment we haven’t had formal expressions of interest but we have had requests for details.”
Waveney obtained planning permission for 12 huts last year and has already sold seven. A spokesman said the remaining five huts would be sold or let depending on the offers made.
Southwold’s beach huts have been known to sell for high prices – those at the town’s Gun Hill site can make £120,000,
