BikeActive received £2,000 in 2006 to help with its service of providing bicycle rides for people with disabilities.

The organisation takes people on bike rides, particularly at Alton Water, near Ipswich, taking people around the reservoir and surrounding villages every Friday.

Secretary Peter Robinson said some of the grant was used to create an online video. “It has proved to be a vital part of our work because we are not on the net,” he added. “We had someone come and take about 400 photo, interview and film us and it was put on YouTube as BikeActive.”

Mr Robinson claims BikeActive, which celebrates its 10th anniversary in March, is the only group that cycle with disabled adults on the roads.

The group owns more than 50 machines which range in design including tandem, side car and trike and are manned by a volunteer along with a disabled rider.

He added: “We run all through the year. We can’t stop our clients from wanting to ride and even if it’s cold they will be here.”
