Hundreds laced up their trainers and took part in Adastral Park’s first ever sports day today in aid of Sports Relief.
The site, in Martlesham Heath, was filled with fun sporty activities and team games, with more than 400 people taking part - all for a good cause.
Speaking at the event, Lisa Perkins, director of research and innovation at BT Adastral Park, said it was a great way to bring everyone together for some fun.
She said: “We have a fantastic community here at Adastral Park, obviously we have BT but we do have 100 other companies with our Innovation Martlesham.
“It was a massive opportunity to get everybody together and really celebrate us as a community and do something really worth while at the same time. We have our team activities happening - we have got tennis, volleyball, football, netball, Jenga, all sorts of random things but great sports that the teams can participate in. Then we have got a loads of individual activities happening across other parts of the site. So things like a our rowing challenge, a cycling challenge, a running challenge and we even have a kayaking challenge. We have an amazing kayaking machine over in our Hub area as well.”
Ms Perkins said she was delighted at how the event had gone - and was glad the weather held out for the big day.
“I am so pleased,” she said. “We have got at least 300 people participating across all of the team events, which is absolutely fantastic, plus hundreds more rising to the challenge in the individual events.
“I was really worried, the weather particularly , especially what we have been battling with over the last couple of weeks.
“I have never been so obsessed about the weather being dry but fortunately it is going to hold so we can enjoy the rest of the day which is going to culminate with a finale with a play-off between the teams with a massive tug of war.”
Ms Perkins said although they didn’t have a fundraising target they were aiming for - she hoped the event raised as much as possible for the cause.
“We also have got a billion step challenge we are doing for Comic Relief as BT,” she said.
“We’ve calculated all of the steps happening here today at the park. I think it’s something like 8,600,000 steps we will contribute to that target so that’s absolutely phenomenal.”
