Multi-million pound proposals to create up to 100 jobs at a new business development have been re-submitted.

The plans for 15 two-storey business units on land west of Tomo Road in Stowmarket were initially withdrawn to allow changes to the layout of a road and footpath giving access to the site.

Seamans Building Ltd has put forward the £2.5million proposals which would be near the A14 and housing estate, Cedars Park.

Andy Acourt, is an architect for Poole & Pattle Chartered Architects, which has designed the plans.

He said: “It’s basically the same application – just the layout of the road and footpaths that changed. I think it’s a really big site, in close proximity as you come off the road.

“Considering what’s been going on in the last few years in terms of the economy – this is a decent sized development.

“I think things are picking up – both in the commercial and residential markets.”

The development, if given permission by Mid Suffolk District Council, would provide spaces for office, service and construction-based companies.

Peter Down, chairman of Stowmarket and District Chamber of Commerce, has called the plans “encouraging” and needed to boost the town’s economy.

As long as the development was “balanced” with the wishes of the community then the chamber would welcome the plans, Mr Down added.

Construction work, which would take a year to complete, is expected to start in the spring.

Mid Suffolk is due to make a decision on the plans in May.

Last week the council approved the first phase of the biggest housing development in Mid Suffolk – Stowmarket’s Chilton Leys.

The estate is expected to see a total of 800 homes built, to land to the west of the town over a 15-year period.

The development was one of the reasons behind Stowmarket Town Council calling for Mid Suffolk to review its boundaries.
