The Stowmarket High School under 15s team had already been crowned county and regional champions before attending the recent finals in Worcester, where they took on five other top teams from across the country.

PE teacher and team coach David Wise said: “These are such a great bunch of lads and it is a real pleasure working with them.

“They work so hard and bring such energy to every session – they richly deserve this success.”

The team had entered the finals ranked sixth in the country, having started its winning streak with a victory at the West Suffolk handball competition, held at King Edward VI school in Bury St Edmunds in February.

The players then travelled to Lowestoft, where they remained undefeated to become Suffolk champions and went on to the regional finals at the University of Cambridge to take on the best school teams from Essex, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.
