A woman is in a critical but stable condition this morning after an accident on a roundabout just off the A14 at Stowmarket.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the road traffic collision yesterday afternoon.

A 58-year-old woman was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital with serious injuries following the collision on the roundabout at the top of the eastbound A14 off slip road at junction 49, where it meets the A1308, at around 4.20pm on Wednesday, April 2.

The woman was a front seat passenger in an Alfa Romeo that was in collision with a black Lexus car. Both vehicles left the road and ended up on the grass in the middle of the roundabout.

Police, ambulance and fire crews attended the scene of the incident along with the Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) and the road was closed while an initial investigation got under way. It was reopened at around 7.40pm.

The woman, who is from the Stowmarket area, was taken to Addenbrooke’s with serious injuries and this morning she remains in a critical but stable condition.

The driver of the Alfa Romeo and the driver of the Lexus sustained minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision and are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the black Lexus being driven along the A14 from Bury St Edmunds towards the junction, or anyone who may have seen either of the vehicles in the moments before the crash.
