Two Suffolk business groups have launched a website designed to pump up a town’s image and boost its economy.
The Visit Stowmarket site will feature a guide to the attractions on offer in the town and the surrounding villages.
Peter Down, a director of Stowmarket Town Centre Partnership, which is behind the project, alongside the Stowmarket and District Chamber of Commerce, said the website is needed to provide more information on the range of activities available.
He said: “The aim of the website is to put a focus on the many attractions in the immediate area of Stowmarket and around the town.
“There are some excellent websites out there including Visit Suffolk with all sorts of interesting information but unfortunately if you look for something on Stowmarket there’s not a great deal.”
The EADT reported last month on the town’s economy as several businesses owners spoke of their struggle to keep afloat.
Mr Down, who is also chairman of the chamber of commerce, said he hoped the “ambitious” project would bring in people from outside the county.
“What we want to do is to attract people to come into the town and enjoy it so much they want to come back,” he said.
“It’s an opportunity for businesses whatever their health to advertise their presence. As we know if you want to get people to come through the doors of your shop you have to tell them where you are and what you offer.”
He said the site – www.visitstowmarket.co.uk – which has so far cost about £2,000, would be online by Christmas.
