Stowmarket: Cordon lifted as officers continue inquiries into alleged sexual assault

16:01 18 June 2014

Archant

A cordon set up yesterday by police investigating an alleged sexual assault on a woman in Stowmarket has been lifted as inquiries continue into the incident.

A 20-year-old woman was walking along a footpath between Windermere Road and Curwen Road, near to some garages, when she was approached by a male who grabbed her and then sexually assaulted her.

The offender walked off in the direction of Windermere Road. The incident happened at about noon.

After the attack, the victim was assisted by a member of public who alerted the police.

Detectives have completed house-to-house inquiries in the area where the attack took place and are continuing to work with the victim, who was left shaken by the attack.

The offender is white, about 5ft 9ins, of medium to stocky build, with light brown or blond short, curly hair. He was wearing a light grey fleece top and blue jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Bury St Edmunds CID on 101, quoting reference ST/14/1667.
