A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries following a collision on the A12 this evening.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened on the northbound carriageway at the Stratford St Mary junction.
A motorcyclist, believed to be in his 60s and from Hornchurch, is thought to have lost control of his Suzuki motorcycle and collided with the central reservation just after 7.25pm.
The man has been taken by ambulance to Colchester General Hospital.
The road was closed in both directions after the man ended up on the southbound side of the central reservation.
While part of the southbound carriageway will be open shortly, the northbound side is expected to be closed for some time and motorists are advised to plan accordingly.
