Two elderly motorists are in hospital after a crash in Sudbury.

Police and paramedics were called to Newton Road in the town after a white Vauxhall Agila and an orange Kia Sportage were involved in a collision.

The two elderly people – a driver and a passenger in the Vauxhall, which included a woman in her late 70s – were conscious and breathing but taken to West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds to be checked over, a Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said.

No other injuries were reported in the collision which took place near a roundabout at around 2pm today.

The police spokesman said no action was taken over the driver of the Kia.
