THE FAMILY of a 67-year-old man who died days after a road collision have remembered him as having a “wicked sense of humour” and being a “friend for life”.

Peter Carr, from Sudbury, died on January 2 after he struck his head on a moving vehicle in Suffolk Road in the town at about 10am on December 23.

He was walking in the road towards Girling Street when he slipped and fell against a passing car and the road.

His family said: “Peter Carr was a loving husband to Valerie, a fantastic dad to three children Shaun, Tracey and Simon, and a brilliant grandfather to five grandchildren Charlotte, Daryl, Jake, Charlie and Brogan.

“He was one of those people that would help anyone if and when he could, always had a shoulder to lean on, to cry on and a ear to listen, always had a way of knowing when you needed him, he would just turn up or give you a call.

“Dad had a wicked sense of humour and many family members were on the end of his joke phone calls as were friends.

“Once you met dad you would never forget him and he was a friend for life, he had the ability to make you smile no matter how bad the situation.

“The family would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that attended his funeral, the amount of people was overwhelming and for their kind donations to the charity Upbeat where he had many friends and helped on the committee.

“They helped dad settle here in Suffolk after his bypass seven years ago after he had to take early retirement from his pub in Ramsgate after 16 years.

“Finally, we would like to say to the lady who was driving the car that dad unfortunately struck his head on as she was driving past, it was just a tragic accident.”

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses following the collision. The female driver of the car stopped and spoke to Mr Carr, but he did not appear badly hurt.

Both continued on their way and no emergency services were called. Mr Carr was later taken into hospital on January 1 and died the following day.

Police are still trying to trace the female car driver and any other witnesses to this incident.
