Pedestrian killed in collision with lorry on crossing

TRAFFIC has been brought to a standstill and shoppers left visibly shocked after an elderly man was killed after being struck by a lorry.

The incident took place on a pedestrian crossing on Market Hill just after 1.30pm yesterday in Sudbury.

Police, ambulance and fire crews were on the scene moments later and a cordon was set up blocking off the entire market area in the centre of the town.

A police spokesman confirmed that the man died at the scene.

Firefighters quickly pinned up sheets across the front of the Volvo lorry and around the scene of the incident.

Market Hill was closed for hours last night as emergency crews worked in the area.

Traffic was diverted away from the town centre as a collision investigation got underway.

However, the scene of the incident has now been cleared and roads are re-opened.

Any witnesses to the collision should call Suffolk Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01473 613500.
