A town centre development manager has been appointed to enhance the viability of Sudbury.
The role has been funded for the next two years with money allocated through the planning process for the town’s Sainsbury’s store, which opened last December.
Sudbury Town Management Team announced yesterday that the post has been filled by Jane Hatton, who is already well known within the town for her work with retailers on events such as the Taste of Sudbury Food & Drink Festival.
Her role will be to maintain and improve the quality, viability and heritage of the town centre, and to help boost Sudbury’s night time economy.
She will also act as a co-ordinator, encouraging co-operation between key partners and service providers.
The town team is a non-political voluntary group representing the interests of local businesses including retailers, market traders, licensees, restaurateurs and other stakeholder organisations with an interest in Sudbury town centre.
It is an independent body recognised by Babergh District Council and Sudbury Town Council.
Mrs Hatton, who will take up the post immediately, told the EADT: “I am looking forward to the opportunity to promote Sudbury and work with all organisations to ensure that the town remains a great destination not only for shopping but to work and live in, and to visit.”
The town team will now work with Mrs Hatton to develop a town centre action plan.
