Jailed in Suffolk and north Essex in February: A drug addict, a fraudster, and a drug dealer

Here is our monthly look back at some of the criminals jailed in Suffolk and north Essex courts in February.

A Suffolk woman who drank half a bottle of vodka and took drugs before causing a fatal crash has been jailed for eight years.

Sarah Hand, 50, of Aragon Road in Haverhill, crashed her car into two other vehicles resulting in the death of 56-year-old Gail Brown.

A former carer has been jailed for three years for sexually assaulting a disabled woman.

Vicky Hooper, 29, of Trinity Court in Halstead, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman she had been employed as a carer for. She has now been banned from working in the industry for life.

A drug addict who threatened to stab two people during a robbery has been jailed for seven years and four months.

Sean Nix, 31, of Tavern Close in Diss, threatened to stab a member of staff and a customer during a robbery at an amusement arcade in Ipswich.

A man has been jailed for three years and nine months for stabbing someone in an argument.

Kevin Selby, 29, of Townley Court in London, plunged a Stanley knife into his victim’s shoulder and slashed him across his neck after the pair were arguing about cars.

A London drug dealer who was caught trying to ply his trade in Clacton-on-Sea has been jailed for seven years.

Ayo Awoyera, 22, of Amshurt Road in Hackney, was arrested when officers saw a man trying to buy drugs from his car. They seized cannabis, cash and two phones, they also found incriminating texts linking him to the county drug line known as ‘Jamal’.

Two drug dealers were jailed for a total of over 10 years after being found with 183 wraps of heroin and 26 wraps of crack cocaine.

Alexander Barrand, 54, of Northfield Road, Onehouse, and Jacinto Melo, 39, of Barnet, were found with heroin and crack cocaine during a police drug raid.

A Suffolk drug dealer who was found with wraps of crack cocaine and heroin has been jailed for five years.

Ayodele Adeleke, 23, of High Street in Newmarket, was found with 51 wraps of heroin and 35 of cocaine while wanted on recall to prison. He also tried blocking the officers from entering the property.

The ringleader behind a £3 million scam which featured card-copying devices has been jailed for 11 years.

Alexandru Sovu, 39, of Prospect Road in Reading, was the ringleader of the scam which copied card details and then sold them on to criminals globally - this all took place in a Colchester shed.

A woman who stabbed and slashed a man while demanding money has been jailed for life.

Kelly Gentry, 47, of no fixed address, stabbed her victim three times, slashed his throat and took his money and cards from his wallet. She had been at her victim’s house drinking when she became aggressive and demanded money.

A former treasurer of a Suffolk sports and social club who stripped it of virtually all its funds has been jailed for two years.

Leon Studd, 39, of Leggatt Drive in Bramford, admitted fraud by abuse of position over a five year period involving £26,986. He also said his actions had left the Sproughton and District Sports and Social club crippled.

Two men have been jailed for a total of seven years for the armed robbery of a betting shop in Brighlingsea.

Thomas Turner, 29, of Illex Close in Colchester, and Lewis Wild, 19, of John Street in Brightlingsea, robbed the betting shop by forcing their way in with a crowbar while staff were cashing up. The pair got away with £200 in cash.

A Suffolk harpist and a former supply teacher have been jailed for a total of nine and a half years for sexually abusing a schoolboy in the 1980s.

Danielle Perrett, 59, of Bridge Street in Alpheton, was found guilty of six counts of indecent assault. Richard Barton-Wood, 68, of Church Street in Wymondham, was found guilty of seven counts of indecent assault and of one count of attempted indecent assault.
