SUPPLIERS of school meals in the county today remain confident no horse meat has found its way into their products – and say they can trace all the ingredients.

School meals in Suffolk – and food at county council staff dining areas – are provided by Eastern Facilities Management Solutions, a company owned by the county council. The school meals are supplied through its EATS (East Anglian Tastes for Schools) brand, and Clive Hammond from EFMS said few prepared meals were bought in.

He said: “We make our own lasagne, bolognese and any meat pies from producers we can trace. They are members of the Red Tractor scheme.

“They are now checking again their supply chains, but we are confident all the meat is grown locally, not brought in from outside food processors.”

The only burgers supplied to schools were pork and apple products supplied by local producers Wickes Farm.

Mr Hammond said: “We are confident that nothing we produce has come from sources we cannot trace – and the same applies to all staff restaurants and other catering.”
