Warm and dry weather is set to descend on Suffolk this week, bringing an end to a miserable and rain-soaked winter.

Temperatures could hit the mid teens throughout this week and next while the mercury is expected to reach as high as 16C (60F) on Sunday.

Chris Bell, a forecaster with Weatherquest, said: “We are going to get into some high pressure unlike what we have seen for quite a while so we are going to end up with dry conditions for the most part for the rest of this week and into next week as well.”

Despite the bright forecast, there could still be a few drops of rain on Friday and Mr Bell added that it could become quite cloudy at times.

Temperatures throughout the week are expected to be between 10-14C.

The prediction will come as a relief to people across Suffolk and north Essex who have endured an extremely wet winter, with the St Jude’s Storm and the tidal surge just before Christmas causing havoc.

East Anglia’s rail services faced a day of chaos as the morning storm brought trees down across several routes.

Staff at a west Suffolk primary school are celebrating following a ‘good’ rating by Ofsted five years after being placed in special measures.

Suffolk police received 680 calls in five hours during the high winds this morning - 600% more than in a usual day.

Few details are known at this time about the incident.

Reporter Gemma Mitchell has compiled a varied but by no means exhaustive list of influential women who have made their mark in Suffolk, from business and charity leaders, to educators and campaigners.
