Next month sees the 50th anniversary of the notorious Beeching Report which led to the closure of thousands of miles of rail lines in Britain.

Suffolk saw four line closures – the Sudbury to Cambridge line, the Aldeburgh branch, the Felixstowe Beach branch, and the line from Lowestoft to Great Yarmouth – as a result of the report.

Other lines in the county had closed before its publication on March 27, 1963.

We are planning a special feature on Suffolk’s lost railways, and would like to include memories from readers who remember routes that closed in the wake of the report.

Please send any memories and/or pictures to Paul Geater, Beeching anniversary, Ipswich Star, 30 Lower Brook Street, Ipswich, IP4 1AN or e-mail paul.geater@archant.co.uk
