Suffolk: County to shake up services following cabinet backing

TWO of Suffolk’s most high-profile services are to face major changes after the county’s cabinet backed radical changes today.

The library service is to be transferred to an Industrial and Providential Society (IPS) if the move is agreed by the next full meeting of the county council on December 15.

That should ensure none of the county’s 44 libraries close – although they would no longer be directly managed by the council.

Meanwhile the county’s road maintenance work is to be contracted out to a private sector company from April 1 2013. That move should save Suffolk £2 million a year.

Both moves were backed unanimously by the cabinet which met at Endeavour House in Ipswich today.
